Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She has covered several notable stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
